Well, some exciting news — I have enrolled in a three-year course in organic skincare formulation!
I am absolutely loving all the new things I am learning — many of which have eluded me for years. I’m now learning how to make toners, cleansers, eye gels, solid body lotions, and so much more.
The course is run by a UK-based school that is regarded as one of the largest formulation colleges, both online and offline. Being in the UK does make class times a little awkward here in Australia, but thankfully all classes are replayed, which makes the time difference much easier to manage.
I have enrolled in the following courses:
- Diploma in Organic Skincare Formulation
- Advanced Diploma in Organic Cosmetic Science
- Diploma in Beauty Brand Business Management
- Certificate in Chocolate Spa Products
The chocolate spa products course was actually a bonus course offered for enrolling before a certain date. I can’t say it was something that initially interested me greatly, but we’ll see how I feel once I get started!
I am currently halfway through the first course and have received distinctions in all of my assessments so far. The knowledge I am gaining has absolutely blown me away, and I am thoroughly enjoying creating sample batches of everything we learn.
The course encourages students to develop a theme for their creations, so I have decided to focus on products designed to support ageing skin.
Now, before anyone gets too excited — no, there are no promises of looking 20 years younger 😊 But learning about skin structure, function, and care has given me a much deeper understanding of how to formulate products with purpose and integrity.
One of my first creations was a solid lotion bar made with oils known for moisturising and pampering mature skin. The formulation was designed to absorb quickly while also helping the skin retain moisture and protect against moisture loss. I gave several bars to friends for testing, and so far the feedback has been very encouraging.
My goal moving forward is to create cleansers, moisturisers, toners, and eye gels that offer the same nourishing and supportive qualities.
