In the beginning

In the beginning

THE EARLY DAYS

Our story begins in the early 1990s, with a quiet curiosity and a simple moment at a local market.

A handmade soap stall. The scent of botanical oils. A conversation that lingered long after it ended.

Something about it felt right.

What followed were years of trial and error. Early batches were unpredictable, and many didn’t make it. Precious natural ingredients were lost along the way—but each attempt brought a deeper understanding of the craft.

At the time, knowledge was hard to come by. Recipes were closely guarded, shared sparingly. It taught us patience, persistence, and a genuine respect for traditional soap making.

So we kept going.

In those early days of the internet, we searched, tested, and learned through doing. Slowly, batch by batch, a rhythm began to form—working with simple, natural ingredients, allowing time and process to do what they’re meant to do.

These photos capture those beginnings: soap poured into sterilised milk cartons, resting in polystyrene boxes, left to cure slowly and naturally.

It wasn’t polished. It wasn’t perfect. But it was honest.

That same approach still guides us today.

At Rawsoaps in Western Australia, we make small-batch, cold process soaps using thoughtfully sourced botanical ingredients. Each bar is given the time it needs to cure properly, creating a gentle, skin-friendly soap suited even for sensitive skin.

Our skincare is made fresh to order—never sitting on a shelf waiting to be bought—because we believe what you put on your skin should be as fresh and pure as possible.

We keep things simple. No synthetics. No unnecessary additives. Just carefully chosen ingredients, handled with care and respect.

With a focus on sustainability, ethical sourcing, and low-waste practices, everything we make reflects a back-to-basics philosophy—honest, natural, and made the way it should be.

And while much has changed since those early days, the heart of it hasn’t.
